Ask the Builder

The hinges within the home we was raised in never ever rusted and seemed much better than my present home hinges. Can I change home hinges? The hinges that are current my d rways have actually big curved corners, however the hinges we want have square corners. How do I successfully install the hinges that are new? Do I want expensive t ls? Regina M., Johnstown, PA

DEAR REGINA your overall d r hinges are most likely affordable steel hinges which have a brass coating that is thin. I've seen this type of hinge rust as well as the screws utilized to attach the hinges to your hinged home and home jamb. These metal d r hinges are frequently occurring ones utilized by production-d r builders. If they can save yourself a dollar or less per couple of hinges over top-notch people, plus they are utilizing hundreds of pairs of hinges a day, one can see why they could wish to substitute a low-cost item. The cost savings results in a big quantity over a period of months or months.

This home hinge is solid brass and it is a traditional square-butt hinge
